Tinctures / Extracts
What are Tinctures? Tinctures are an extract of plant or other organic material dissolved in ethanol (alcohol). This extraction process allows the medicinal properties to be extracted and provide full spectrum of its properties! This extraction method also allows the shelf life to be stable for many years, arguably, indefinitely as the alcohol naturally preserves its components. Tinctures should be stored in amber glass bottles in a cool, dark, cabinet, preferably out of sunshine. However, if exposed to some sunshine the amber color bottle does protect against its rays. Tinctures are taken under the tongue (sublingual) and can also be added to a juice, water, coffee, etc! Every tincture should be shaken well before use! They have been used medicinally for thousands of years, literally, and are not as commonly used in medicine in todays world, unfortunately. All of my tinctures are made with organic cane alcohol and alcohol percentage is checked each batch to maintain shelf stability as well as effective and potent benefits for each regime/concoction I offer! Tinctures are the best way to take "medicine" as it surpasses the Gastro-intestinal system and goes straight into the blood stream, meaning effects are felt within minutes. Anyone with absorption issues or gastrointestinal diseases benefit best when using tinctures as many by mouth supplements may not be absorbed.
The difference between a Tincture and an Extract? The only difference is that all 'tinctures' are concentrated herbal extracts with an alcohol base, the alcohol is used as the solvent. Extracts can be made using other solvents such as water, vinegar, glycerin or any solvent other than alcohol.
